the clinic has been in full swing for about a week, and we
are already seeing many more patents than in years prior. john and the other emergency/family practice
doctors have treated a fair amount of altitude disease and trekking related
conditions. i too have had my share of
patients (for the eye people in my life: things like allergic conjunctivitis,
foreign bodies, and preceptal cellulitis) .
john likes to comment on the fact that i had already seen two patients
before he had even seen one! in all
honesty, i have been pleasantly surprised by the number of ocular cases we have
seen so far.
the schedule around here is pretty lax. john and the other two emergency/family
practice physicians have created a three day rotation with one day of 9-5 pm
clinic, one day of lecture and overnight call, and one day off. myself and the emergency department nurse are
sort of on deck for whatever times/days we are needed. ginger, the nurse, and i have been just
choosing whatever day off works best for us.
i tend to choose the days that john is off so that we can hike around
and/or explore the town together. it’s
been wonderful to have such a relaxed schedule.
note: as i write this, john is downstairs stitching up a
patient who came in while he was on the overnight call. it’s so great that the HRA clinic is here;
there are so many locals in need of care and even more sick/injured trekkers
that come through this part of the world.
