chillicothe, week two...

so, this week at our usual morning meeting my preceptor told me that the VA would like me to introduce myself to patients as, "dr. tanner, who is working with dr. [insert name here]," so not to confuse the patients. hmm...sounds more confusing to me. this is how most of my patient conversations went this week:

me: hello mr. so-and-so, my name is dr. tanner and i am working with dr. [insert name here]
patient: awh, hey doc. say, you look young, when did you graduate?
me: oh, i haven't yet, i'm in my last year of training.
patient: but i thought you said you were the doctor, are you not a doctor?
me: no, i'm not a doctor, i'm an optometry intern from the ohio state university.
patient: so, you're not the doctor?
me: no.
patient: then why did you say you are the doctor?
me: i have no idea.

...and so on...

hardest part of week two at the VA: probably the whole dr. tanner thing, but documentation is sure keeping me late, so we'll make it a tie between the two.

Yea... that would confuse me too! So, after this last semester you will be Dr. Tanner right?
