i really should learn to follow patterns...

for whatever reason i am completely incapable of following directions. it's not that i can't read the directions or the recipe or the pattern or whatever it is...i just can't be bothered with them. it could be that i feel restricted in following another person's protocol...or it may just be that i'm lazy. either way, i end up spending a great deal more time correcting my mistakes than i would had i just followed the directions in the first place.

this flaw of mine often presents itself in my knitting. though a few projects have turned out lovely, more often than not the items turn out too snug, too loose, too irregular, or just too ugly. :). i've been attempting to make john a hat that fits his head properly for years, but every hat ceases to cover his ears. well, yesterday i finally made a hat that covers his ears...unfortunately it also covered his eyes, his mouth, and part of his chin. he was kind enough to model it for us anyway.
