foreign bodies on my mind: chillicothe, week eight/nine...

as many of you know, i have a lazy eye.  yes, it's true.  and though my lazy eye doesn't hang out in left field causing people to wonder if i am in fact looking at them, it still gives me grief from time to time.  one such time is when i have to remove foreign bodies from patient's corneas.  this requires a steady hand and a good sense of depth behind a microscope.  well, the steady hand part should come with practice, but the depth perception part should have taken effect sometime during my infancy. sadly, it did not.

over the past few weeks it seems that every one has stopped wearing safety goggles.  what does this mean for optometry?  well, it means that this week i saw my first patient with something embedded in their cornea that needed to come out.  and who gets to take it out?  well that would be me, sarah, the intern.  awh yes, the intern with really lousy depth perception.

post-date note: all "digs" have gone on without a hitch, everyone has healed up just fine, and no one has lost vision because of me.  just wanted you to know...

You are hilarious! Guess I should start wearing safety goggles in the lab...but I'm guessing my major problem wouldn't be imbedded objects but more likely would just sear my cornea off completely....so you wouldn't have to dig for anything and we all would win!
