street sweeping...

every second wednesday of may, august, and november our neighborhood takes part in a little something called street sweeping.  john and i have had little success in remembering when these street sweepings are to occur, and thus, we are left with a few "good laughs."  these two were just too good not to share. :)

the first took place last may.  john left the house in pursuit of a few items at the grocery store.  he returned a few minutes later to report that our car seemed to be, well, missing.  i thought he meant our car had been stolen, but then john said in a very defeated tone, "street sweeping."  it was true, our car had been towed and was sitting in the police impoundment lot downtown.  but here's the kicker, it had been there for THREE DAYS!  yes, it took us three days to realize that our car had gone missing.  obviously, we don't get out much.  anyway, we had a good laugh.

the second took place just the other day.  i had woken up pretty early, unable to sleep, and so i decided to clean the bathroom.  while i was doing so i heard a knock at the door.  yes, i heard the knock, but i did NOT answer the door.  being an extremely paranoid person when it comes to things like being home alone, answering doors to strangers, etc...i simply froze and waited for the person on the other side of the door to realize no one was home and leave.  but whoever it was did not leave.  a few minutes later there was another knock, and then a few minutes later another.  finally, john woke up and went downstairs to open the door.  shortly thereafter, i heard john yell something about "CARS" and "TOWED."  awh yes, it was street sweeping day AGAIN and our cars were about to be towed.  the person at the door had been one of our kind neighbors and well,  i felt pretty stupid.

Trent and I got a good laugh out of this story! It is so random that they do street cleanings on the schedule they do. How does anyone remember that? I'm sure they have towed a lot of cars!
