apparently, there is some sort of unspoken rule about eating the top portion of your wedding cake on your one year anniversary. i had not planned on keeping with this tradition, mainly because those i know with the self control to keep cake in the freezer for a year claim that the cake is quite disgusting after such a lengthy storage. also, i was under the impression that my father had already eaten what was left of the cake. i was wrong.
my mother, who is incredibly bright, hid the last of the wedding cake in the neighbors freezer (with their approval, of course). as the one year mark approached, she retrieved the cake only to find that it looked disgusting. later, my mother confirmed that the cake also tasted disgusting. feeling somewhat responsible, she called my good friend and neighbor alyssa, who then secretly confiscated a picture of the cake from our apartment, took it to a local bakery known as "a piece of cake" for replicating, and delivered it on our anniversary for well, eating.
thanks mom and alyssa for the beautiful cake and the happy wishes. oh, and by-the-way, the cake was delicious.
